Importer Exporter Code Registration Online
For Indian enterprises, dealing with other countries opens up a world of potential. An importer exporter code (IEC) is essential for breaking into foreign markets, whether your goal is to import things, export goods, or grow your company internationally. Under the Ministry of Commerce, this code is issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). In order to facilitate payments to foreign banks and clear customs, importers rely on the IEC to ensure seamless international commercial operations. Exporters also depend on the IEC to expedite the process of shipping goods and collecting money from foreign customers.
Import Export Code
The business entity must obtain an import and export code in order to import into or export from India. IEC number, or Import & Export Code, is a commonly used term. A ten-digit unique number known as the Import & Export Code is provided by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). An IEC registration certificate is required for any company that engages in import or export. Therefore, in order to clear customs, an importer must confirm that the importing entity has an IE code and a GST registration before beginning an import of goods into India. The items will be stranded at the port and subject to demurrage charges or maybe destroyed if the importer does not have both GST and IEC Code Registration.
Importance of Import Export Code
Companies that engage in the export and import of goods and services have a fantastic opportunity to expand into foreign markets. Since the IE code helps the firm grow and flourish to some level, it is a necessary prerequisite when entering the worldwide market. Having an IE Code has a number of benefits. Here is a list of a handful of them:
- International market unlocks: They enable the products to reach the worldwide market because the IE Code is a prerequisite for the import and export industry. The use of IE code facilitates and opens avenues for the multinational Indian company’s growth and expansion.
- Online IEC registration: Finding the IE Code is a simple, fully online process that just requires a brief document submission.
- Less document requirement: Obtaining an IEC does not need submitting a large number of documents.
- Lifetime Validity: For as long as the company is in operation, IE Code registration is free of charge. As a result, changing, filing, and renewing the registration for an import export code is not problematic. Until the firm ceases to exist or the registration is not canceled or relinquished, the IEC registration is still in effect.
- Reduces illegal goods transportation: The most fundamental prerequisite for the Import-Export code is the provision of genuine data. It is impossible to retrieve IE code without providing the necessary details. The shipment of illicit products is prohibited under this criterion.
- Availing Several Benefits: Exporters and importers alike can benefit greatly from IEC code registration. The Export Promotion Council, Customs, and other authorities may provide subsidies to the registered business enterprises. Exporters are able to export goods without having to pay taxes when they file under LUT under GST. The exporter is entitled to a reimbursement of the taxes paid if the exports are made after payment.
- Compliances: The person handling import or export does not need to meet any special compliance requirements, such as the yearly filing or return filings, in contrast to other tax registration.
Validity of IEC Code
As mentioned above, IEC Code registration is permanent and valid for a lifetime. Hence, there will be no hassles with updating, filing, and renewing the IEC registration. It is valid till the business exists or the registration is not revoked or surrendered. Further, unlike tax registrations like GST registration or PF registration, the importer or exporter does not require to file any filings or follow any other compliance requirements like annual filing.
